Savory and packed with protein, this hummus avocado toast is the ultimate upgrade to your busy morning. It's quick to make, easy to customize, ready in under 10 minutes, and perfect any time of the day.

Two pieces of toast topped with hummus, avocado, and tomato slices.

Lately, I've been diggin' this vegan hummus and avocado toast as a super simple lunch, breakfast, or snack. It's made with my homemade lemon-garlic hummus and topped with fresh, ripe avocado.

Hummus is one of those versatile staples you can enjoy with just about anything-crackers, naan, chips, veggie sticks. It's creamy, flavorful, and always satisfying.

Pair it with avocado and spread both on a slice of seeded multigrain toast, top with fresh vine-ripe tomatoes, and a sprinkle of salt and pepper. It's a quick, nourishing meal that never disappoints.

    Instructions

Hummus and avocado toast is super easy to make.

First, you'll want to start with a good hummus. I love my homemade hummus recipe using garlic powder. It's easy to make and consistently delicious.

Or choose a store-bought brand. Just make sure it's one you enjoy, since it sets the flavor tone for the toast.

Hummus in a gray bowl topped with olive oil, red pepper flakes, and chopped parsley.

Follow these steps to bring everything together:

    1. Toast the bread to your desired level of crispness. Sourdough or multigrain bread works especially well.
    2. Spread a generous layer of hummus over each slice.
    3. Add sliced or mashed avocado on top.
    4. Finish with sliced tomatoes and a sprinkle of salt and freshly ground black pepper.

Enjoy right away while the toast is still warm and crispy!

    Variations

Want to switch it up? These tasty variations will enhance your toast.

To boost the flavor try one of these:

    • Spicy kick - Add a sprinkle of red pepper flakes or cayenne pepper, or a drizzle of hot sauce for some heat.
    • Herby flavor - Top with chopped fresh herbs like cilantro, parsley, or basil.
    • Added Crunch - Top with toasted seeds or nuts, like pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, or chopped walnuts.
    • Zesty twist - Squeeze a bit of fresh lemon or lime juice over the avocado.
    • Sweet & Savory - Drizzle with agave or balsamic glaze for a delicious contrast to the savory flavors.

    More topping options:

    • Roasted veggies - Swap sliced tomatoes for roasted red peppers, grilled zucchini, or caramelized onions.
    • Pickled flavor - Add pickled red onions, jalapeños, or cucumbers for a tangy bite.
    • Cheesy Touch - Sprinkle with vegan parmesan, homemade or store-bought.
    • Mediterranean style - Add kalamata olives and a sprinkle of za'atar spice.

We'd love to hear from you!

Okay, I just tried this, I used plain white bread bc that’s all I had. I am gonna get some multi grain tho 2nite. So I used half of the avocado just bc I wasn’t sure if I would like it, this is new to me. Used about half of the amount of hummus but mine was red pepper hummus, didn’t use tomatoes bc I’m allergic to fresh tomatoes but I’m going to try salsa (canned not fresh) next time after I drain it a bit. But I also can’t handle spicy foods so I go for tangy and tart now, so I added some pink Himalayan salt, garlic pepper (not spicy but flavourful) some lemon and herb slice, and topped with some everything bagel seasoning. About two to three dashes per slice of bread per seasoning. It was so so good! But your recipe gave me a great starting point and just wanted to share! Thank you! :D

Is it 320 calories for one slice or two?
